What to do with 500+ used Dunlop Supercar tyres. Landfill or recycle?
Thanks to Kevin Fitzsimons from Dunlop Tyres Australia & New Zealand, Elton Goonan of MotorSport New Zealand and the cooperation of Martin Collins at Taupo International Motorsport Park these tyres will live on as safety barriers at Colin Dale Park International Raceway.
But how to get them out of the pit garages by Wednesday night and up to Auckland?
Within a few hours of a call to Jake Pascoe on Sunday afternoon, the team at RPC Logistics had plan in place.
A truck with two containers arrived from Auckland at 11am Wednesday and Daniel McMillan and the team from Gig Workforce had the Dunlop tyres loaded before midday.
Big thanks to all involved!
I highly recommend RPC Logistics who will go the extra mile!

Slow.
Is there another, more extreme word to describe slow? If so, I would use it here.
When the driver arrived on site, myself and the 3 builders had the entire load (consisting of 4x large sliding door panels, 1x sill, 1x head and 2x frame sides) off the truck within 15 minutes. The driver did not assist, which was fine.
What followed, though, was the most bizarre display of time-wasting I have ever witnessed: the driver proceeded to take another 1.5 hours to fold 4-5 felt blankets (which had been used to protect the doors in transit - well done) and roll up a few strops.
(We have had numerous things delivered on a wide range of trucks so I am well-acquainted with the process and have assisted many a driver with unloading. But this was out of control.)
When he finally finished, the driver then suggested he stop and take his lunch break on site. I welcomed him to make himself at home, but queried whether the clock would continue running over his lunch break, and politely added that I would appreciate if we weren't charged for the aforementioned blanket-folding extravaganza.
At this point he must have decided he had milked the situation as much as possible and decided to leave.
When we received the invoice, sure enough, we were charged 2.5 hours for "loading and unloading". No use of the hiab was made at either end. The truck was loaded by factory staff (unrelated company) and unloaded by us. The only thing the driver did was secure the load at one end and un-secure the load at the other.
Credit where credit is due, the driver did a good job of strapping down and the doors arrived in relatively good condition (a couple of marks here and there which would have been a problem if they were painted but a natural finish is more forgiving).
RPC Logistics were unwilling to reduce the loading/unloading portion of the invoice whatsoever. We will not be using them again.
