How lucky we were to stay next door at the Camper van holiday park and have this gem of a place at our front door!!! Some locals told us about it and wham ~ a home run! Aaron the manager was swift to park us at a perfect perch and from there we had a view of the beach and Rangitoto Volcano…so we ordered a bottle of champagne on ice for when our friends arrived and soon we were celebrating! With oysters on the half shell, scallops and perhaps the BEST Ceasar EVER!!! ….For appetizers then on with the whole baked red snapper and their amazing chicken (which I don’t often get excited about…) that was divine with this crème sauce that had enough garlic to kill a murder of vampires ~ incredible, all of it! And thanks MONY for saving the day and bringing that “Herzog” out… oh my that man knows what he’s doing! My new fav wine maker! And thank you MONY for such amazing service and thinking of asking us if you could reserve a table for us for breakfast the next day, we need it and the breakfast was also over the moon!!! Marie had the crumpet and I the special ~crawfish Benedict… oh my, it’s time to head home and hit the gym!!!

Have been meaning to try the evening menu since they secured their license last year. Finally made it, and it was worth the wait. Licensed until 8pm.
A beautiful summer’s balmy evening spent on the outside deck. The setting is sublime.
The menu:
Varied and thoughtful with at least five dishes we could have selected. Spoilt for choice in a good way! We shared a selection of starters including tuna crudo, nduja toast, focaccia bread, and olives.
The tuna crudo was fresh and beautifully presented.
The ’nduja toast had a lovely kick of spice that worked brilliantly.
The barracuda was fresh, beautifully cooked, and perfectly seasoned.
We finished with a mille-feuille, which was a lovely way to end the meal. Crisp pastry, smooth cream, just the right amount of sweetness.
Back for brunch: A few days later we returned for brunch and had a fabulous omelette with charred peppers and salsa. The combination was excellent, fresh ingredients cooked well with flavours that worked together beautifully.
The coconut cappuccinos are excellent. Creamy, well-balanced, and a nice twist on the classic.
The views and atmosphere: The outside tables with that outlook create a Mediterranean vibe that’s hard to beat in Auckland. There’s something special about dining right on the beach with the water so close.
A note on acoustics:
Inside, the acoustics can make conversation a little difficult when it’s busy.
The outside deck is where you want to be for both the view and the ability to actually hear each other.
Takapuna Beach Cafe is a space that makes the most of its stunning location while backing it up with quality food and a welcoming atmosphere.
Perfect for locals and visitors alike.

Goodness me! How busy is this place?!
If we hadn’t reserved a table there would have been a bit of a wait for one.
Popular is an understatement!
I had the special of the day….whitebait omelette, and a glass of watermelon juice. The others had one of the same, a normal omelette, two halloumi dishes and the good old fish and chips.
Outstanding food.
Incredibly impressive service!

Kia ora, our family absolutely loved this place. My goodness, the service was very friendly making sure we were okay, and filling our water glasses. The breakfast was absolutely 💯, on point. The bacon strips topped with poached eggs with a sauce and under laid with a thick hashbrown. You know, with our whānau, excellent food ignites great conversation. I thoroughly recommend this cafe. 👌 Well done, thank you so much

What a magic way to start your day. On the brink of summer, with the sun just rising, sitting with a tulip cup of perfectly brewed caffeine goodness, watching the workday week crowd hustle and the rest, actively relax. Happiness is a spot on the deck, people watching and sitting with friends appreciating where you are. The staff, attentive and friendly, the food, pricey but worth it.
